Simon Scrase,
Words (Community Development and Infrastructure)

Over the last 20 years, I’ve worked in education, employment and social services on statewide community, economic and infrastructure programs.  I’ve delivered projects like the TAFE International Fibre Centre in Geelong and employment and community programs to improve social, cultural and economic outcomes for disadvantaged individuals and communities. The highlight of my career was delivering great social justice programs.  This included Victoria’s Community Jobs Program in the early 2000s followed by 10 years leading Economic Participation for Victoria’s Neighbourhood Renewal Program.

These programs delivered jobs, improved living conditions, community facilities and more. Recently I’ve been working with the African community, Local Learning and Employment networks on school business partnerships and the Brotherhood of St Laurence exploring community labour hire for aged care. I’m passionate about  place-based leadership and multi-sectoral approaches to tackling disadvantage. I’m committed to government, community and business working together to achieve great community outcomes. So I’ve started a Master in Urban Planning and Environment at RMIT University to better understand the possibilities of place and to add to my Master of Planning and Design from Melbourne Uni.
